This Day in History: 1814-12-17

In a letter dated 30th November 1814 Mr Adam, Secretary to the Government of India wrote to Colonel Fagan, Adjutant General India, requesting Lieutenant Frederick Young to assume command of ‘a strong body of Irregulars (hillmen) of about 1500’ to assist the Honourable East India Company advance into the Himalayas. According to a letter from Lord Moira dated 1st June 1815 this instruction was later qualified to ‘only Goorkhas and hillmen’.
