The Sirmoor Battalion and a small detachment of cavalry from Patiala drove off looting Sikhs who had crossed the River Sutlej and threatened Ludhiana.  According to the Regimental History they arrived just in time after a forced march of 44km and ‘The bold front shown by the Goorkhas defeated the Sikhs in their object’.
