This Day in History: 1846-03-03

In a General Order dated 3 March 1846 the Governor General, Viscount Hardinge, alluded to the Sirmoor Battalion in the following terms: ‘The [Honourable East India] Company’s service has lost an excellent officer in Captain Fisher who fell at the head of his brave Sirmoor Battalion, which greatly distinguished itself. The 29th (Worcestershire) Regiment of Foot and the Sirmoor Battalion have entitled themselves by their gallant conduct to the thanks of the Government.’
