This Day in History: 1857-08-06

There were desultory attacks by Indian mutineers on the Sirmoor Battalion holding Hindoo Rao’s House on the Ridge at Delhi. These were intended to cover the setting-up of batteries in the area of Kissenganj which ‘almost enfiladed our advanced line’.  In spite of four heavy guns and six mortars being brought up to that end of the Ridge, it proved impossible to silence the enemy artillery.
