This Day in History: 1857-08-11

The Sirmoor Rifles, marching to Delhi to suppress the mutineers there, undertook another gruelling march of 40km in very hot sun (after one of 100kms the previous day) from Abbottabad to Khakee in the Pakli Valley.  Click here to read an account of the campaign.  The medal to the right of this text was awarded in 1858 to those who took part.
