This Day in History: 1858-09-04

In accordance with the direction of the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, the Regiment was renamed the ‘Sirmoor Rifle Regiment…in further commemoration of its late conspicuous services [at Delhi]’.  It had already been granted the privilege of carrying a third colour which was later replaced by The Queen’s Truncheon.
