This Day in History: 1864-08-07

On the North-West Frontier The Sirmoor Rifles (560 strong) were ordered to march ‘at a moment’s notice‘ towards Hazara country and reached Abbottabad on 10 August, a distance of 100km, the men suffering considerably from lack of water along the route and from the unusually hot weather for the time of year.
