This Day In History: 1879-10-24
As a result of the assassination in Kabul of Sir Louis Cavagnari, the British envoy, and his escort the 2nd Goorkhas left Dehra Dun on 3 October 1879. They joined the 2nd Division commanded by General Bright at Surkhab Bridge near Jugdulluck prior to the invasion of Afghanistan and the capture of Kabul in December.
