This Day in History: 1889-01-03
Battalion HQ and a wing of the 2nd Battalion commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Frederick William Nicolay, after marching from Dehra Dun to Meerut, entrained for Calcutta from where they sailed in the SS Simla to Chittagong. They joined the Field Force commanded by Brigadier General Tregear that had been assembled to punish the Shendu tribesmen who had carried out border raids and killed an officer and 3 soldiers of the 100th Prince of Wales Leinster (Royal Canadians) Regiment of Foot. They returned in May 1889 and went back to Burma in January 1890.
