This Day in History: 1889-10-30
The 2nd Battalion entrained from Meerut to Calcutta for operations in the Looshai Hills in Assam. They formed part of Brigadier-General Tregear’s Column comprising 28th Bombay Pioneers, 2nd Battalion 2nd Goorkhas, a wing of the 4th Gurkhas, 2 guns from the Bombay Mountain Battery, a company of Sappers and Miners, a wing of the 9th Bengal Infantry, and a wing of the 3rd Bengal Infantry and Frontier Police.
