This Day in History: 1890-03-25

On the eastern borders of India, a patrol from the Frontier Police which included two 2nd Goorkha signallers was attacked by Jacopa, a local chieftain in Looshai, and his men in response to the patrol having burnt his granary. Seeing smoke coming from the village Captain Hutchison and a company of Goorkhas set off and discovered the headless bodies of the two signallers and several Frontier Police sepoys. They failed to find Jacopa on this occasion although he was eventually captured.
