This Day in History: 1902-10-10

A Miss Haig (later Lady Burrard) fell off an elephant howdah into a thorn bush while out hunting with the 2nd Goorkhas. Lieutenant Herbert Nicolay was the first on the scene. Seeing her clothes were in some disarray and to spare her blushes, before helping her he turned and shouted to those following him “Only married men to come and help me!”
