This Day In History: 1911-11-01
The 1st Battalion, taking part in the Abor Expedition in the far north-east of India, searched the jungle within a 4 mile radius of their camp and burned several huts and crops as well as killing 2 Abor tribesmen. One officer of the Battalion wrote: ’It’s horrid work and not war at all and I don’t like it. I hate shooting a man who is on the run and that is what they are. They are curs of the first water but extraordinarily adept at concealing themselves.’
