This Day in History: 1911-11-01

The 1st Battalion, taking part in the Abor Expedition in the far north-east of India, searched the jungle within a 4 mile radius of their camp and burned several huts and crops as well as killing 2 Abor tribesmen. One officer of the Battalion wrote: ’It’s horrid work and not war at all and I don’t like it. I hate shooting a man who is on the run and that is what they are. They are curs of the first water but extraordinarily adept at concealing themselves.’  Click here for an account of the campaign.
