This Day in History: 1917-06-01

At about this time three members of the 1^st Battalion were awarded Serbian decorations for gallant and distinguished service: 3030 Havildar Atibal Gurung – the Cross of Karageorge 2^nd Class; 4487 Rifleman Khumba Sing Gurung – Gold Medal; 4216 Rifleman Raskar Gurung – Silver Medal.  (It was a convention at the time that allies provided quotas of medals to each other as a gesture of solidarity and companionship, and these were used to make supplementary awards to those deserving of recognition).
