This Day in History: 1917-06-17

The 1st Battalion, in Mesopotamia, was employed in laying out and arranging the river posts of Kasiring, Khan Jadidah, Daudieh and El Mimar and roads connecting them.  In 1917, quotas of foreign medals were sometimes allocated to units for distribution as rewards for meritorious service, and three men of the Battalion were awarded Serbian decorations for ‘gallant and distinguished services’.
