This Day in History: 1917-10-13

The 1st Battalion joined General Maclachlan’s Column in Mesopotamia for operations against Turkish positions in the Jebel Hamrin range, some 65km north east of Baghdad, then married up with Russian forces before driving north across the Diala River. The Regimental history describes the Russians as: ”a fine lot of men, especially the Cossacks and the Mountain Artillerymen as yet untainted by the revolution in their country …”  Click here to read an account of the campaign.
