This Day in History: 1924-11-07

Subedar Major Arjun Rana OBI IOM was granted an Honorary King’s Commission on his retirement.  This award was unique in the 2nd Goorkhas and very rare in the Indian Army as a whole.  Arjun Rana had joined the Regiment in 1896.  His operational service included the Abor Expedition 1911-12, France 1914-15, the 3rd Afghan War in 1919 and Waziristan in the early 1920s.  During his service he was awarded the Indian Order of Merit for gallantry in France and, in 1924, the prestigious Order of British India as a reward for his long and distinguished service.
