This Day in History: 1926-07-30

Major General C E deM Norie became Colonel of the Regiment, serving until he died on 20 July 1929.  He had commanded the 2nd Battalion from 1911 to 1914 and took it to France to fight in the battles of 2nd November and 20th December near Neuve Chapelle.  He subsequently held staff appointments before assuming  command of the Bareilly Brigade and on two occasions officiated in command of the 7th (Meerut) Division, in France in 1915 and later in Mesopotamia in 1917.  He also commanded a Brigade during the advance and occupation of Baghdad.  He was invalided to India and assumed command of the Poona Brigade prior to his retirement in 1920 with the rank of Major General.
