This Day in History: 1936-09-24

The 2nd Battalion left Dehra Dun for a tour of duty in Eastern Bengal with its Headquarters in Chittagong. The last time the Battalion had been there was during the 1891 Lushai expedition.  The Regimental diarist wrote: ‘Chittagong probably has not changed much except for the installation of electric light and the construction of the Assam-Bengal railway.  The main duty of the Battalion is to support the Civil Government in the suppression of terrorism by showing the flag in the district and by assisting the civil police to search and arrest suspects.  The terrorist movement is now quiet.’
