This Day in History: 1941-12-17

The 2nd Battalion relieved elements of the Malayan Volunteer Force which had reached the mainland after the evacuation of Penang.  The Volunteers left behind ‘welcome assets’ in the form of seven Vickers machine guns and two attached officers.  That evening, a squadron of 3rd Cavalry under Captain Hari Chand Badwhar arrived with armoured cars and was taken under command.
