This Day in History: 1943-03-06

Number Three Column of the 1st Chindit Expedition, based on C Company of the 3rd Battalion but commanded by Major Michael Calvert, a Royal Engineer, successfully blew a bridge near Nankan in Burma, cutting the Mandalay-Myitkina railway. A strong force of Japanese engaged them before a second bridge could be blown, but the success with the first vindicated Chindit tactics.
