This Day in History: 1945-06-11
The 4th Battalion (Lieutenant Colonel JA Kitson ) attacked the village of Ondaw. At 10.40 hrs, after a ten minute artillery barrage, two rifle companies advanced to the objective with C Company (Major C Theed) from the west and D Company (Major N Lockey) from the east. The concentrated fire caused the enemy to flee towards the jungle and after a short firefight which resulted in 5 Japanese killed, the village fell.
