This Day in History: 1945-06-19
At 04.00 hrs and after a number of earlier unsuccessful probing attacks (known at that stage of the war as ‘jitter demonstrations’) a small group of Japanese eventually managed to infiltrate the 4th Battalion’s position at Tanbingon in Burma. Their attack was beaten off but because the trenches had filled up with storm water some Gurkhas were slow in taking cover and three were wounded.
