This Day in History: 1947-01-01

The 5th Battalion was relieved at Razmak by 1st Battalion of the 1st Gurkha Rifles, and moved to Dehra Dun where it disbanded. It had spent the almost five years of its existence on the North-West Frontier. Some 300 men were selected for retention in the other Battalions and at the Regimental Centre.
