This Day in History: 1963-01-14
Heavy rain in Borneo unleashed the worst floods in living memory, particularly on the Limbang River which at one point rose 30 feet and was over a mile wide. B and D Companies of the 1st Battalion, together with personnel from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, did much to help deliver food and clothing to local people who had lost everything. Major Watterton, Officer Commanding D Company, was awarded the Royal Humane Society’s bronze medal for his efforts.
