This Day in History: 1964-09-05
A Company of the 1st Battalion successfully destroyed an enemy camp at Nantakor in the Pensiangan/Saliliran area across the border in Kalimantan. After being lifted in by helicopter, they marched to the camp and had a long firefight with the Indonesians occupying it, incurring 4 casualties but inflicting severe damage on the enemy. Unusually, a helicopter was authorised to cross the border to pick up the wounded. The Company Commander, Major Willoughby, was awarded the Military Cross and 2 NCOs were awarded the Military Medal.
