This Day in History: 1965-11-30

D Company of the 2nd Battalion, with 2 platoons of B Company under command, set out on Operation James Bond to ambush the Sungei Poeteh in Borneo. In an encounter battle a force of about 100 Indonesians attacked them 4 times but determined counter-attacks and 126 rounds of artillery fire led to 24 Indonesians being killed and an estimated 25-35 wounded. Major Erskine-Tulloch, commanding the Gurkha force, was awarded the Military Cross. On the same day, A Company ambushed Sungei Kumba and killed 7 enemy.
