General Sir Geoffrey Scoones died aged 82. He had joined the 2nd Battalion in 1913 and served with them in France, commanding them for a few months in 1933 before commanding the 2nd Battalion of the 8th Gurkha Rifles. He was General Officer Commanding 4th Corps in Burma, and was responsible for the successful defence of Imphal, the first victory over the Japanese and which turned the tide against them.
