This Day in History: 1980-10-25

The 1st Battalion was warned for fire-fighting duties because of a UK firemen’s strike. 8 ‘Green Goddesses‘, elderly fire engines that had been used in the 1950s by the Auxiliary Fire Service, were delivered to their barracks at Church Crookham. Unfortunately one caught fire before it could be used, causing much ironic hilarity.
