‘The Frontier 1937’ – paper by Lieutenant General Sir Francis Tuker
The document shown below is in his papers in the Imperial War Museum. It is not dated but as he refers to himself as ‘Lieutenant General Tuker’ in the title it was probably written after he retired. Like many of his writings it has a slightly disjointed narrative thread but nonetheless gives some interesting insights into what tours of duty on the North-West Frontier were like and his own critical views of how operations there were conducted.

B Company 1st Battalion 2nd Goorkhas: Account of Operation in Tunisia 16-17 March 1943.
The account below describes an action by B Company of the 1st Battalion, led my Captain Ramsay-Brown, to search for and destroy enemy gun positions. It first appeared in the 1 October 1943 newsletter sent out by the Regimental Centre in Dehra Dun, with a ‘SECRET’ classification. There is also a short description on pps.66-68 of Volume III of the Regimental History.
The action came to the attention of the Corps Commander as a singular achievement in terms of the ground covered. It also led to a write-up in the American press which did much to publicise Gurkhas to a wider audience.
