This Day in History: 1858-03-27
Jemadar Badal Thapa was recommended for advancement to the 2nd Class Indian Order of Merit (IOM) having been awarded the 3rd Class medal as a Sepoy at the Battle of Sobraon. On receiving it he became the only man in the 2nd Goorkhas ever to have been advanced in Class of IOM. His actions are described in the diary of Charles Reid, the Commandant. Badal Thapa also held the campaign medal for Aliwal with clasp Sobraon.
