This Day in History: 1886-02-10
On receipt of orders from HQ Meerut Division the 2nd Battalion was raised with a nucleus from the 1st Battalion comprising eight subedars, eight jemadars, eight NCOs, two buglers and 59 riflemen with the remainder coming from new recruits. The first Commandant was Lieutenant Colonel Sullivan Becher, who was to die of cholera at Mussoorie in August 1887.
