This Day in History: 1897-01-20
The first brigade training camp was held for units in Dehra Dun. Both 2nd Goorkhas Battalions and No 5 Mountain Battery went into camp at Rajpur, about 10km north-east of Dehra, and exercised for 10 days over the hills to the south of the town. This initiative was inspired by the practice of the 5th Gurkha Rifles at Abbottabad of going to distant camps for all military training, something which hitherto had not been done in Dehra Dun.
