This Day in History: 1915-04-09
Captain Charles Mullaly wrote from the 2nd Battalion in France to the President of the Mess Committee in Dehra Dun ‘We have had damnable weather here, and training is rather uncomfortable, but we get this 4 or 5 hours per day. We do drill parades, attacks, trench details which we have learnt want looking at, bomb practising and running and rapid rushes to get men fit, and wire cutting. We feed like Princes. Every fellow gets something out every week and we have 8 or 9 cakes always on the side board. I am as fat as a pig, and creak horribly when I run’.
