This Day in History: 1915-07-04
The 2nd Battalion relieved the 4th Seaforth Highlanders in the ‘Kinkroo’ section of the front line, near La Quinque Rue and about 300m from the German lines. The Battalion was subject to enemy shelling and one Gurkha was killed moving along a communication trench.
Map of the trench system referred to (from the Regimental History). Someone there obviously had a sweet tooth: trenches are named ‘Cadbury’s’ and ‘Fry’s’ and there is a ‘Chocolate post’ as well as a ‘Chocolate Menier crossroads’
