This Day in History: 1918-07-28
The 1st Battalion, part of 36th Infantry Brigade, was based around Kermanshah in north-east Persia. Lieutenant FJ Loftus-Tottenham had taken out a night patrol to ambush rifle thieves who had been causing much trouble. However as the patrol returned at dawn, a sentry from the Royal Hampshire Regiment fired on the Gurkhas by mistake, wounding Loftus-Tottenham in the arm and his orderly in the leg.
