This Day in History: 1918-10-07
The 1st Battalion, which had sub-units deployed to Zinjan, Kasvin and Resht in north-western Persia, was struck by a ‘flu epidemic. The Regimental History reported: ‘Captain Murray of the Indian Medical Service and only two British ward orderlies and two Persian menials had to attend to the needs of 140 sick, and the men here being generally worn out with constant trekking, succumbed the more readily to the malady’.
