This Day in History: 1919-10-23

The 2nd Battalion left the North West Frontier initially for garrison duties in Hyderabad and Karachi, as a ‘protective measure’ because of trouble brewing in Scinde, before onward travel to Dehra Dun at the end of January 1920. This marked the end of almost two years on active service and was welcomed as it enabled them to leave the dust and discomfort of Manzai and Waziristan behind.  Casualties had been slight: two Gurkha Other Ranks killed and four wounded.
