This Day in History: 1942-02-15
The Japanese attacked Singapore Town. The day broke with gunfire from all sides. As the 2nd Battalion adjusted its perimeter a despatch rider from 53rd Brigade arrived with a message: ‘At 1600 hrs all troops under command will cease fire but will remain in their present positions….there will be no destruction of arms or equipment but all secret papers and codes will be destroyed’. The Battalion was to march into Japanese captivity two days later.
