This Day in History: 1945-12-02

Lieutenant Colonel Kitson, commanding the 4th Battalion in Saigon on operations to restore order and prevent a communist takeover of Indo-China, wrote that on this day: “We gave a cocktail party and dance and about 100 guests turned up.  We thought it a great success, marred only by the fact that two Frenchmen were murdered almost within sight of our house an hour before the party started and some of us had to go out and clean up the mess.”
