This Day in History: 1946-10-31

Pandit Nehru, leader of the Indian Congress party and later the first Prime Minister of independent India, visited the North West Frontier. He arrived in the 5th Battalion’s area by an unexpected route. As a result the distinguished visitor was momentarily held up by a vigilant 2nd Goorkha naik [corporal] because of Nehru’s inability to produce the requisite pass to enter the Frontier Area.
