This Day in History: 1947-03-02
Major Adrian Hayter submitted a paper to the President of the British Officers’ Mess Committee recommending the purchase of a Regimental aeroplane. His case was based upon the proposition that: ‘Through careful stewardship of subscriptions, the 2nd Goorkhas had successfully built up a tradition of horsemanship and polo. Something similar might be achieved with flying and a well-managed fund should be able to purchase a Tiger Moth.’ The proposal was not supported and no aeroplane was bought.
