This Day in History: 1948-12-26

The 1st Battalion arrested a suspected Communist Terrorist (CT) in a coffee shop on the Muar Road in South Johore. The Chinese agreed to guide them to a CT camp, but on nearing the area sat down and refused to go on, announcing that to go further would mean certain death at the hand of the bandits. He bit off the end of his tongue, causing a haemorrhage so severe that he had to be taken to hospital – then, much to everyone’s surprise, agreed to take them to a house where 3 Communist agents lived. The 3 were arrested, one of whom led the Goorkhas to the main camp the following day.
