This Day in History: 1952-02-07

Major Jon Aslett, who served with the Regiment from 1956 to 1968, remembered “On this very cold winter’s day in Germany on a TEWT [Tactical Exercise Without Troops] at dusk I decided to laager up on the only piece of flat ground nearby.  As I was standing there, having lit a fire and trying to get warm, the ground exploded and a bullet hit me in the leg.  It was an old Second World War German repository of ammunition.  Ironically I served in Malaya and throughout the Borneo campaign, which were real shooting wars, and never received any injury at all!”
