This Day in History: 1957-05-10

In the period 7 December 1956 to 10 May 1957 the 1st Battalion, working closely with other units of 99 Gurkha Infantry Brigade, killed the platoon commander and 27 rank and file of No 5 Independent Platoon MRLA in the Kulai area, reducing its strength by half. A further 4 Communist Terrorists had also been killed. As well as destroying the enemy’s effectiveness in the area for the rest of the Emergency, this was also a very good example of using minimum resources for maximum return.
