This Day in History: 1965-09-25

D Company of the 1st Battalion, headed by Captain Lalbahadur Pun (one of the first Gurkhas to be commissioned from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst) attacked a camp on the Sungei Sembakung containing 40-60 Indonesians. A bold charge killed 13 of them and the remainder scattered into the jungle. 25 weapons were seized. Locating the camp had taken longer than expected and D Company had to survive on jungle plants and small fish from the streams until they returned to their base. Captain Lalbahadur was awarded the Military Cross.  Click here to read an account of the campaign.
