This Day in History: 1976-06-09

An announcement was made that the two Battalions of the Regiment would be amalgamated in 1979. This did not in fact happen and on 22nd August 1978 the amalgamation was cancelled, partly because of a major increase in Chinese and Vietnamese illegal immigration to Hong Kong which needed additional troops there to guard the border.
