This Day in History: 1977-10-14

A Regimental Reunion parade took place at Cassino Lines in Hong Kong, each Battalion providing 4 rifle companies. It was watched by 13 retired British Officers from the UK and 19 retired Gurkha Officers from Nepal.  The Colonel of the Regiment, General Sir Edwin Bramall (later Field Marshal Lord Bramall) took the salute. One of the retired officers commented: ‘In my North-West Frontier days it was occasionally required that I doubled with my Company, but I had never, ever before seen a doubling Colonel of the Regiment!’.
