Sathies went on to celebrate their first Delhi Day on the nearest weekend to 14

September 2006 in Aldershot. Approximately 150 ex-2 GR Gurkha Officers/Soldiers

turned up, including a healthy number from (SCUK). The Regimental flag had very

kindly and thoughtfully been fixed and raised by Brig Vernon Beauchamp early in the

morning!

£1,000

was kindly granted by the

Trustees

of the

2GR

Trust

Fund

to

subsidise the cost.

During the SRA(SC) meeting of Thursday, 27 February 2014, the Nominal Roll

of 2 GR personnel collated by Capt Raju Gurung here in the UK had reached

some 1,485 +. As a result, the President, Chairman and other Committee

Members of (SCUK) plus the Trustees of the 2 GR Trust Fund instructed Maj

(GCO) LB Gurung to officially form up the 2

nd

Gurkha Rifles Association-UK

(Sirmoor Sathies), so that the number of voting rights could then be determined

and allocated to the (Sirmoor Sathies) based on the principle of the number of

members residing in the UK.

1.6

To elect the Committee Members, an

Extraordinary General Meeting

(EGM)

was called forward by Maj (GCO) LB Gurung on Saturday, 1 March 2014 at the

Bhetghat Restaurant in Aldershot in the presence of Capt Bharatsing Thapa

Chhetri, the Chairman of Sirmoor Club Nepal (SCN). Well over 118 + ex-2GR

personnel turned up to elect the Committee Members.

1.7

The Association shall remain in being for as long as the majority of members

wish and for as long as they are prepared to administer and top-up the insufficient

grant which gets approved by the Trustees of the 2 GR Trust Fund whilst

celebrating historical Battle Honour days such as: The

Delhi Day

,

Tamandu Day

and

Tigris Day

.

2

OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION

2.1.

To promote and maintain the bonds of friendship amongst ex-Gurkha all

ranks of the Sirmoor Regiment by getting together at least

twice

a

year

through

the medium of celebrating the unique battle honours, ie

Delhi Day

,

Tamandu

and

Tigris

. The Committee should aim to celebrate them on the nearest weekends.

This is due to the fact that big school halls are usually available only on weekends.

It has also been proven that only this best practice system has enabled maximum

number of members to share fond memories of their halcyon Army days. To date,

the UK-Sathies had been celebrating only Delhi Day; but they now wish to

celebrate

Tamandu

and

Tigris

Day

battle honours to be organized by outlying

branches in turn on an alternate yearly basis, ie if

Tamandu

is celebrated

this

year

, then

next

year

will be

Tigris’s

turn and so on.
